Mom life is hard life. Whether your a single mom or a married mom matters not, because either way it’s a very demanding full time job. If you work part or full time, or if you homeschool, if you are on a budget or just don’t have a full time maid…getting all “the things” done and actually carving out some time for yourself seems next to impossible.
You’re about to have your coffee and the baby gets up, someone had an accident, someone asks you to help with something and before you know it…you’re drinking cold coffee *adds ice, rolls eyes*
You’re about to go to the bathroom, you think you’re going alone and than a little one barges in and is crawling onto your lap with a book “Read this one now Mommy.” *Seriously?!?! Do you not see what’s going on here child of mine?! No they don’t care! Primal little psychos.*
You’ve made breakfast/lunch/dinner and by the time their food is cut, blown on, drinks are refilled, spills cleaned up, the baby is settled or changed again/fed/burped…your food, much like your coffee that morning, is cold.
You get up hours before everyone else, after going to bed later than everyone else, and still someone gets up and interrupts your personal time.
When are you supposed to read/write/workout? 2:30 am? That seems to be the time everyone else is actually at ease! But no, I’m not going to tell you to work out at 2:30 am, because with all that you have going on that would be ludicrous.
Here is the plan that has been working for me, at least so far: I have a loose plan.
I know it’s got to be short and sweet. Gone are the days where I had an hour to do cardio or 50 laps in the pool and then weights too…no I generally get my cardio from stroller walking nowadays and weights? Well I have to get the strength training in but it’s happening in 20-30 minute increments.
I have just three days a week loosely planned workouts, every two days I alternate between upper body/lower body, and posture/back. Each day I work on fixing the diastis rectis a little bit at a time. If you had/have that post baby-will be doing a separate vlog or blog on that soon! Stay tuned!
There is not much rest time between sets because that prolongs the workout time needed but, oh well.
There is also not much planning as to exactly when it will happen during the day-just common attempt times. I try to start in the morning…if I have enough energy and they stay sleeping. If they don’t, I go through my day doing schooling, playtime and cleaning…and do my very best to get the baby situated when the boys have lunch.
Then I wait on my lunch and workout while they are entertained by Youtube and Anjali’s sleeping or swinging away! If it doesn’t work to do it at lunch because of baby being a fusspot that day (I guess babies are allowed bad days too), then the boys get to watch a little more kids shows after lunch; at a time when she is sleeping or calm! No complaints on their end for more viewing pleasure so who am I to complain?
If you, like me, have to work out at home and want some great lunchtime learning/play videos to shove in front of your kids while you do your workout, here is a great list of my kids’ faves:
My kids love this amazing teacher and her friend Squeaks! They explore everything from A-Z and answer questions from curious viewers via kid friendly video explanations!
Travel With Kids TV(This youtube channel follows a family that travels all around the world so kids can see different places and what THEY could do for fun while there-very cool)
Flip Flop Sisters!-(This youtube channel is a friend of mine’s daughters who do various interesting and fun-hearted things and have turned it into a social media curriculum for themselves in their schooling to learn videography! I can promise G ratings and wholesome fun on this kids reality show too! Shout out girls! The boys enjoy watching your fun times from out of state!)
I also like pulling up Ted Talk videos for kids so they can listen to kids inspiring them to think differently. The one we first watched was so inspiring we decided we’d find and watch one/day. We started with this one: Sparsh Shah Ted Talk
I hope this list helps some of you! These are all relatively scary-commercial free if you download the Youtube Kids app and access them from there 🙂
Don’t feel guilty for the screentime! You need some you time too!!
I will share other tips as I go/learn how I myself am able to continue my goals with 2 boys and a baby! If you have any tips that might help ME that have worked for you, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE comment below and make me aware of them 😉 I can use all the help I can get…
